Employment in Zambia

Overview

The transformation of the economy from one which is dependent on the production of traditional exports namely copper and cobalt to an industrialised and diversified economy as envisaged in the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP) will enable the creation of employment opportunities.

The key sectors of focus for job creation are agriculture; manufacturing; tourism; infrastructure; energy; Information, Communication and Technology and mining. According to the Zambia Statistical Agency, in 2021 the working-age population was over 10 million people of which 6.4 million were outside the Labour Force.
