The inaugural Invest in\u00a0Zambia International Conference, held in Lusaka in July, demonstrated the breadth of investor interest in the country.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lusaka \u2013 Zambia showcased its economic ambition to the world with the hosting of the inaugural Invest in\u00a0Zambia International Conference (IZIC) at Lusaka\u2019s Mulungushi International Conference Centre. Spanning three days from 16\u201318 July, the event gathered government officials, international investors and business leaders under the theme \u201cDriving Generational Transformative Investments Through Joint Ventures and Partnerships\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For President Hakainde\u00a0Hichilema, the message was clear: Zambia is not just open for business \u2013 it is actively dismantling barriers that historically stifled investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have realised that government bureaucracies can weigh businesses down,\u201d President\u00a0Hichilema told delegates. \u201cSo, we have established a Presidential Delivery Unit\u2026 to accelerate the resolution of issues that hinder business operations.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new unit, he explained, will directly address investor concerns and streamline decision\u2011making. His remarks set the tone for a conference focused as much on implementation as ambition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big numbers, strategic sectors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The headline figures quickly followed: by mid\u2011conference, the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) had facilitated Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth roughly ZMW 46.6bn (around $2bn). The agreements span critical sectors \u2013 energy, agriculture and mining \u2013 aligning with Zambia\u2019s broader vision for economic diversification and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the highlights was a joint venture between US-based Anzana Electric Group and state electricity utility ZESCO, targeting energy infrastructure expansion. Other MoUs covered renewable energy, transport corridors and agro\u2011processing, all aimed at reducing Zambia\u2019s dependency on copper alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Albert\u00a0Halwampa, Director\u2011General of the ZDA, described the conference as a turning point: \u201cOur goal is not just to attract investment but to anchor it in special economic zones, improve investor services and ensure long\u2011term returns,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are actively addressing challenges around power, land access and logistics to build real investor confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
