Lusaka – The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) in partnership with Curechem Zambia Limited and Hanan Hygiene Chemicals Limited donated a total of 860 Litres of assorted Cleaning Chemicals valued at over K40, 000 on May 12th 2021.
The chemicals included Multisurface Cleaner, Multipurpose Disinfectant Cleaner, Pine Disinfectant Spray, Dish Washing Liquids, Liquid Hand Soap, Spirit of Salt and assorted Liquid Detergents.
Speaking during the Handover Ceremony of the Chemical at the Lusaka Central Correctional Centre, ZDA Director General Mukula Makasa said ZDA recognises that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is crucial to the values, operations and in projecting the Agency’s commitment to its key stakeholders and clients.
Mr. Makasa explained that the Agency partnered with Curechem Zambia Limited to contribute an assortment of cleaning chemicals through Henan Hygiene Limited, one of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) supported by the Agency, as way of giving back to the community.
He said Hanan Hygiene Chemicals Limited is a female led enterprise that was registered at the Agency in 2017 and is specialized in manufacturing a range of cleaning chemicals including what was handed over.
Mr. Makasa stated that he was confident the Cleaning Chemicals would help in disinfecting surfaces in the correctional facility and curb the spread of the pandemic and other infectious diseases.
“It is the hope of the Agency that the female inmates, staff and management of the Lusaka Correctional Centre will find the cleaning materials useful and that they would go a long way in maintaining a clean environment within the facility,” reiterated Mr. Makasa.
The Director General concluded by paying tribute to the efforts and contributions of Curechem Zambia Limited and Hanan Hygiene Chemicals and staff at the Zambia Development Agency for making the undertaking possible.
And speaking earlier, Deputy Commissioner Enias Mbao, the Regional Commanding Officer Lusaka Region expressed gratitude at the gesture by the Zambia Development Agency and its partners.
Deputy Commissioner Mbao observed that the cleaning chemicals would go a long way in cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and save lives at the Lusaka Central Correctional Centre as prevention is better than cure.
“You would have donated the Cleaning Chemicals to many other institutions in need such as schools and hospitals but by choosing to donate to the Correctional Service, you have fulfilled the scripture that says when I was in hospital you visited me,” observed Commissioner Mbao.
Meanwhile, Curechem Manager Human Resources and Administration Manager Humphrey Chimenge said his company was excited to associate with the donation and that they will continue supporting such noble causes.
Mr. Chimenge added that his company will continue supporting Micro Small and Medium Enterprises like Henan Hygiene Chemicals.
And speaking on behalf of the inmates, Mary Banda thanked the Agency and its partners for the kind gesture adding that the cleaning chemicals would go a long way.
