The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) received a delegation of thirty (30) investors who are managing different businesses in the United Arabs Emirates (UAE). The delegation leader Mr. Faisal Seyd said the team’s visit to Zambia was intended to explore investment opportunities in the country in response to the well-publicized investment environment in the country.
The delegation expressed interest in a number of economic sectors which included, energy; food processing; tourism; health; hospitality; mining, movie production; agriculture and textiles.
In addition, the delegation members noted the peaceful environment in the country and also undertook to explore additional investment opportunities available in Zambia.
The ZDA team led by Director Export Development, Mrs. Jessica Chombo highlighted Government’s priority sectors comprising Agriculture, Mining, Energy, Manufacturing, Tourism, Infrastructure and ICT. She assured the delegation that Zambia is a peaceful country, which is strategically located, politically stable, has many tourist sites, a diverse culture with 73 tribes. She also highlighted that Zambia is a member of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), as well as the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) which extends the market outreach.
Mrs. Chombo informed the delegation about the Farm Blocks, under which Government has secured about 100,000 hectares in each of the ten provinces for agriculture. She also informed the delegation about the Special Economic Zones (SEZ), commonly known as Multi-Facility Economic Zones (MFEZ), which are meant to promote industrialization and export of finished products. Mrs. Chombo also highlighted sector specific incentives intended to promote trade and investments. The delegation was also assured of the ZDA support for the establishment of foreign, local and joint corporations in Zambia.
It was not all business as the delegation also took time to sample some of Zambia’s touristic attractions which included an impromptu visit to the Lusaka Museum located near ZDA offices with a scheduled visit to the Victoria Falls before leaving the country.
