Zambia and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties following a high-level roundtable meeting in Cairo, held on the sidelines of the El Alamein-Africa Forum, where government officials, investment agencies and private sector leaders explored strategic investment opportunities between the two countries.

The roundtable, which was co-hosted with the Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA-RIA), focused on strategic investment opportunities between Zambia and Egypt.

Speaking during the meeting, Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Director General Albert Halwampa welcomed increased Egyptian investment in Zambia, noting that a delegation of Egyptian pharmaceutical companies had visited Zambia in September to explore business opportunities.

Mr. Halwampa observed that Egyptian investments are already contributing to Zambia’s infrastructure development and encouraged the Egyptian business community to take advantage of the vast investment opportunities available across Zambia’s priority sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, mining, energy, tourism and logistics.

He further emphasised that Zambia’s investment drive is anchored on the Government’s Grow Zambia Agenda, which seeks to accelerate economic transformation through increased investment, industrialization and value addition.

Meanwhile, General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Awad emphasised the importance of translating the longstanding diplomatic relations between Egypt and Zambia into tangible investment and trade outcomes that contribute to economic growth, industrialisation, job creation and value addition.

COMESA Regional Investment Agency (RIA) Chief Executive Officer Heba Salama described the engagement as an important step towards implementing the outcomes of the El Alamein-Africa Forum, held from 2 to 4 October 2026.

Zambia’s Ambassador to Egypt, Major General (Rtd.) Topply Mulambo Lubaya, reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen economic diplomacy and promote increased trade and investment flows between Zambia and Egypt.

This follows the visit by the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, to Egypt in February 2025, and his continued strengthening of bilateral relations and economic diplomacy; trade and investment interests have continued to grow between the two countries.
